Mr. FITZPATRICK. Mr. Speaker, I use today to recognize an
organization from my District and celebrate the profound impact of
Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia and to advocate for the
designation of ``Community Is Stronger Than Cancer Day.''
Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia is an organization that
uplifts and strengthens individuals impacted by cancer. With a mission
to provide support, foster compassionate communities, and break down
barriers to care, they have been a beacon of hope for countless
individuals in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
Over the past 30 years, Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia
has served over 500,000 people in Eastern Pennsylvania, offering a
comprehensive range of free programs and services. From groups and
evidence-based counseling to educational events, health and wellness
classes, and social gatherings, their tireless efforts have provided
solace and support to those navigating the challenges of a cancer
diagnosis.
The statistics are staggering, each year, roughly 9,000 people in the
Greater Philadelphia Area receive a new cancer diagnosis. It is
imperative that no one facing this journey feels alone. Cancer Support
Community Greater Philadelphia ensures that individuals and their
families have access to the support and resources they need to navigate
this difficult journey with dignity and resilience.
In recognition of their unwavering dedication and the resilience of
those impacted by cancer, I am proud to introduce this resolution. I
call upon all members of our community to join me in celebrating the
strength and courage of cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, and
their loved ones. Let us honor those who have fought valiantly and
remember those we have lost, while reaffirming our commitment to
supporting one another through every step of the journey.
I believe that it is important for Congress to support the
designation of June 28, 2024, as ``Community Is Stronger Than Cancer
Day.'' Together, let us acknowledge the power of community in
overcoming adversity and supporting those in need.
I encourage all individuals to learn more about Cancer Support
Community Greater Philadelphia and the invaluable work they do.
